At a time when cities around the world are facing growing challenges in terms of road safety and infrastructure transparency, Guatemala City is sending a strong signal: Together with DKT and our local partner Capris GT, an innovative control and monitoring system for public transport has been successfully introduced as a pilot project – based on RFID and NFC technology.
🎯 The aim was to create a digital solution that responds to real-world problems:
🔹 Recurring timetable deviations
🔹 Insufficient data on fleet movement
🔹 Increasing number of road accidents
The solution: A system in which buses are scanned digitally at junctions of their routes with modern RFID/NFC identification solutions – transparently, reliably and in real time. This creates a data-based overview of travel times and routing.
What this means in concrete terms:
✔ More safety for passengers and drivers
✔ More transparency in local bus transport
✔ Basis for digital developments such as driver approvals and technical roadworthiness of buses
This project is a prime example of the potential of modern identification solutions in urban areas. A big thank you to all those involved for their commitment, the cooperation at eye level and the clear vision: to make public transport safer, more efficient and more sustainable.
We are looking forward to the next steps.
